At KJK9 we believe that every dog has the potential to become a well-trained, confident, and obedient companion. Our founder and Training Director, Kelley Ortega, brings over 12 years of experience working with animals and has spent the past six years professionally training dogs across a wide range of breeds and behavior levels. Kelley specializes in both pet obedience and advanced working dogs, offering a balanced, real-world approach that builds clarity and trust between dog and owner.
Meet Kelley Ortega – Owner & Head Trainer
Kelley has been actively involved in dog sports and behavior work for years. She has four years of experience as a decoy in PSA (Protection Sports Association) and IGP, giving her deep insight into canine body language, drive development, and handler communication. Her ability to read dogs—whether in high-drive protection scenarios or calm home environments—sets her apart as a versatile, well-rounded trainer.
Kelley shares her life with six dogs: Gracie, Dixie, Princess, Pig Fairy, Razor, and Scooter, several of whom serve as demonstration dogs during lessons, board and train programs, and group sessions. She is currently training with Razor to achieve the PSA Level 3 title, the most advanced level in the sport.
When she’s not training, Kelley enjoys weightlifting, baking, hiking with her dogs, and reading dog training books to continue expanding her knowledge and refining her methods.

From our demo dogs showcasing impressive skills to protection sport champions and beloved house pets, each canine has a unique story to tell. Join us as we introduce you to our amazing personal dogs, highlighting their talents, personalities, and the joy they bring to our lives.
Gracie
Gracie is our main demo dog! Outside of her job here at KJK9 she enjoys black powder detection, tracking, swimming in the pool, learning new tricks, and even some bite work! Gracie is 3 Years old and was adopted at 9 weeks old in 2022. Gracie was adopted from Mutts 2 Majesty Rescue in NC. Gracie is 54% Golden retriever, 17% German Shepherd, 16% Rottweiler, 9% Pitt-bull, & 3.2% Chow.
Fun Fact: Gracie Likes to try and bite the window if she is not included in pool time
Scooter
Scooter is the first employee of KJK9. Although we are unsure of his exact age, he was estimated to be at least ten when he was adopted from VA in Feb. 2021. Scooter has come a long way in the years we have known him! From severe dog aggression and separation anxiety to occasionally lending a "paw" as a demo dog in lessons, we are so happy to see him enjoying his golden years as a healthy well balanced member of society!
Fun Fact: Scooter has his very own hot dog shirt!
Dixie
Dixie joined KJK9 in 2024 at the age of 13. Dixie likes taking naps, making horrible noises, and food. Dixie handles most of the inventory work at KJ K9 and can often be found sleeping on our stock of Inukshuk dog food. In her free time, Dixie does scent detection for patchouli oil.
Fun fact: Dixie will fight a bear over a piece of dog food.
Razor
"Iron Sights Armored Razor"
Razor is the office funny guy here at KJ K9. When he isn't goofing around, he competes in PSA (protection sports association) and is currently working to achieve the highest tile of the sport (PSA 3) . Razor also enjoys tracking, snuggling on the couch, and narcotics detection.
Fun Fact: Razors interests include; his chuck-it ball, biting decoys, running very fast in one direction for no reason, and making eye contact while he stands in the pool during nighttime potty breaks (he's not supposed to be there)
Princess
Princess is the head of pest control and does not take her job lightly. She has actually created a generation of very fast & very scared frogs and lizards here on the property through natural selection. Princess believes that chemicals are not the solution to your pest control problems but rather that eating the pests is a more effective plan. Princess spent the first 8 months of her life as a street dog before being adopted from the Starmark Academy. She has numerous titles in nose work.
Fun Fact: Princess eats so many lizards that she has been put on a weight loss diet.
Pig Fairy
"When Pigs Fly Over The Blackwater"
Pig Fairy is our newest hire! Bred by Blackwater Malinois in Georgetown, TX this puppy has a big life ahead of her. Her training goals are to compete in PSA, and preform Bed Bug detection. Pig Fairy's favorite toys are currently her pink fuzzy duck, her Pink pig toy, and bite sleeves. We are so excited to watch her mature into a confident working dog! Her favorite hobby is running 12 feet out and running into your legs as fast as she can.
